From the broad to the specific, from the global to the personal, these dramatic snapshots explore the implications of planning new buildings, erecting walls and adapting to changing landscapes. Noor Theatre commissioned short plays and monologues for this event from Jacob Kader, Ismail Khalidi, Mona Mansour, Daria Polatin, and Najla Said.

We hope you can join us for this unique collaboration and exciting event on Friday, March 16th. Stay tuned for more information…

Set in French Algiers, THE STRANGEST is an absurdist murder mystery infused with elements of Middle Eastern oral storytelling traditions and dance. Three Algerian brothers – an artist, a shoemaker, and a thief - vie for the love of the same woman. Their bitter rivalry ends with one brother being inexplicably shot down on a beach by a French stranger in a random act of violence that none of the characters could expect.

Midway through Camus’s classic The Stranger, an unnamed Arab is killed. Leaping from this moment and working backwards through possible histories of tangled romance, ethnic conflict and random violence, playwright Betty Shamieh has crafted a new play inspired by this unknown character. Set in French Algiers, The Strangest is an absurdist murder mystery about three Algerian brothers who vie for the love of the same woman. Their bitter rivalry ends with one brother being inexplicably gunned down by a French stranger.

It is set in January, 1948 as the British Mandate ends, and a new era begins for the state of Palestine. Amidst the chaos, two brothers -- the passionate one carrying an unrequited love for the village beauty and the simple one striving to keep their love alive -- discover how war transforms their village and makes them refugees from life as they knew it.

Noor Theatre presents at BEginnings@Happy Ending
April 28th at Happy Ending, 302 Broome Street, New York, NY
7 PM doors, 8 PM start, FREE ADMISSION, 21+

Our friends at The BE Company invited us to curate one of their raucous and lively BEginnings@Happy Ending nights. The goal?
"To support new, artist generated work from writers, actors, musicians and more. See what happens when we give the artists carte blanche. We promise side-splitting laughs, high drama, and the power of the spoken word. BE the first to hear new work straight from the artist's mouth."

That is a mission we can definitely get behind. Join us for drinks and highjinks - our lineup (subject to change...) so far includes the hilarious and insightful Negin Farsad, Lena Rizkallah, Jake Kader, Meena Dimian, and Tamar Vezirian. Put it in your calendar now!
