I Am Yusuf and This Is My Brother

I AM YUSUF AND THIS IS MY BROTHER is set in January, 1948. The British Mandate ends, and a new era begins for the state of Palestine. Amidst the chaos, two brothers — the passionate one carrying an unrequited love for the village beauty and the simple one striving to keep their love alive — discover how war transforms their village and makes them refugees from life as they knew it.
Amir Nizar Zuabi is a writer/director, and Artistic Director of ShiberHur Company in Palestine. His recent works include Samson and Delilah, Flanders Opera (Antwerp); Jidariyya, (a stage dramatization of the epic poem by the great Palestinian poet Mahamoud Darwish), National Palestinian Theater, Edinburgh International Festival, and Boffes du Nord; In Prigone Con Vitgenstine, Teatro Colosso (Rome); Forget Herostrates and Autumns Tale, Al Midan (Haifa); Alive From Palestine, Al Kasaba Theater (Ramallah), Tokyo International Festival, Royal Court Theater, The Kennedy Center, and Cairo International Festival, where it won The Best Show in Cartage Theatrical Days; I Am Yusuf and This is My Brother and When the World Was Green for the Young Vic in London where Nizar is also an International Associate. Since 2009, Nizar has been running his own company ShiberHur and with his company has produced I Am Yusuf and This Is My Brother, With Great Sorrow, War or More Sneeze and In the Penal Colony. ShiberHur is currently co-producing another show with the Young Vic to premiere London in 2012.
